Washing different fabrics and colours

Washing different fabrics and colors requires some care to ensure that your clothes come out clean and in good condition. Here’s a guide to help you

Browse by fabrics and colours

1. Separate by Fabric Type

Cotton: Wash in warm or cold water. Cotton can handle higher temperatures, but be cautious of shrinking.

Delicates (silk, lace, etc.): Use cold water and a gentle cycle. Hand washing is often recommended.

Wool: Use cold water and a wool-specific detergent to prevent shrinking. A gentle or wool cycle is ideal.

Synthetic Fabrics (polyester, nylon, etc.): Wash in warm water. Synthetics are generally durable but can be prone to static.

2. Separate by Color

Whites: Wash separately to avoid color transfer. Use hot water and a detergent designed for whites.

Bright Colors: Wash with cold water to prevent fading and bleeding. A color-safe detergent is best.

Dark Colors: Also wash in cold water to prevent fading. Use a detergent formulated for dark colors.

3. General Tips

Check Labels: Always follow the care instructions on the garment’s label.

Use Mesh Bags: For delicates, using mesh laundry bags can help protect them from damage.

Avoid Overloading: Overloading the washing machine can prevent proper cleaning and rinsing.

Pre-treat Stains: Address stains as soon as possible with a stain remover or pre-wash treatment.

4. Drying

Air Dry: For delicates, wool, and items prone to shrinking, air drying is best.

Tumble Dry: Use a low heat setting for synthetic fabrics and a medium setting for cotton.

Check Before Drying: Ensure that stains are completely removed before drying, as heat can set stains.
